“The future has several names.

For the weak, it is impossible.

For the fainthearted, it is unknown.

For the thoughtful and valiant, it is ideal.”

Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.
But it ain’t about how hard you can hit.
It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.

“Life will knock us down. But, we can choose to get back up.” –Jackie Chan taken from The Karate Kid remake

There are people who teach that life can be all rainbows and sunshine. The problem with teaching this philosophy is that it just isn’t true. Life will knock us down. Sometimes, it will appear as though we are unable to get back up. It is in these moments that teachings show their true value.

If life were easy, we would all be successful, but it isn’t. Life will test us to make sure that we are committed to our outcomes. To create anything of real value, we must be willing to step outside our perceived boundaries. We must be willing to become more than what we believe we are.

By choosing to get up, we are refusing to believe the lie that we aren’t enough. When we do this, we stretch ourselves outside what we believe possible. We become more.

Today, I will be committed to my outcome.

“I don’t cheat myself…that was rule #1 I was taught as a kid. And I definitely can’t cheat the audience. So I give 150% every single time that I do anything, in any way that I live my life. I just cherish each doggone moment. -Bernie Mac taken from the movie Soul Men

What use does not giving everything you have do for you? What use does saving energy have? One result is a lack of commitment for your life. The end result is cheating yourself and others from the experience of life.

Not giving yourself fully to whatever you are doing in any moment robs you of the experience of life. The current moment is all that you really have. Spending energy on something that already happened is wasted energy. It didn’t happen anywhere near the way that you thought that it did.

Saving for something that is coming up doesn’t serve you. When you don’t commit fully to where you are in any moment, you end up slightly off from where you would be. This compounded over time throws you way off your course. You end up on your death bed with wishes unfulfilled and dreams un-done. You die with your song still in you.

Order 7 Habits Of Highly Successful People

We need to give ourselves permission to face successful failures and learn. To lead and be led. To teach and learn. To mentor and be mentored. To live and to die. All with the understanding that if our hearts are in this, it will…become commonplace… -Boys to Men International Leader List

What did it feel like to be one of the Wright brothers? How many dangerous situations did they face to accomplish their goal? It must have appeared to everyone around them that they were crazy. They were attempting something that no one had ever accomplished. They were committed to an impossible looking goal.

The Wright brothers must have learned a lot through all of their failures. Imagine what their drawing boards looked like. Imagine the number of epiphanies it took for them to get from crash to flight. How many times did they almost give up? How many times did they get called crazy? Yet they came back and learned from their experiences. They stayed teachable, always keeping their eye on the prize.

What do we have to show for this resiliency? How amazed are we by the goal that they attained? To us, flight is a given. To us, it is as if it were always possible, a right of the human species if you will. It has become commonplace. The moral of the story? Those of us who attempt the extraordinary today, build the ordinary of tomorrow.

Today, I will be teachable. I will remember that each failure gets me closer to my next success.

“One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it’s worth watching.” -Unknown

Most people will spend their last days reviewing their lives in quiet desperation. They spend their time half asleep, not quite alive, but not technically dead either. What does it mean when a person looks at their life and can’t find anything of value? What would they do different if they could?

Today, imagine that you are on your death bed. Take your life, with all of your choices and place them out in front of you. Look at all of life’s situations and how you chose to handle them. Now ask yourself, IS IT ENOUGH? Not is it enough for me. Not if it’s enough for your spouse. But, is it enough for YOU? Can you live with the headlines and sub-stories to your life? What would you title a movie based on your story? Is it a love story, an action/adventure?

Now, here is the rub, what do you need to do today to make the life you want? Start today, don’t wait for the light to change green. It will change green when you move through it, and not until then. Only when you have chosen how you want to live will you be able to head in that direction.

Today, I will make sure my life is worth living.

For anything of significance to be changed or created in this world, there usually has to be significant cost. That cost normally becomes a test of how committed a person is to the outcome. How many times are you willing to be told “NO” before you get your yes? Are you willing to dust off getting knocked down long after the passion for what you are doing wears off?

If we look at some of the most successful people as mentors we will see that most of the time it is darkest right before the dawn. In other words, right before success is reached most of the time it looks as though failure is all that will be accomplished. That is the test, are you committed to your outcome no matter what?

I believe that this is a natural process that must be passed through before any major success can happen. We must be stretched and tested. We must become a different person than we were before. Before, we are a person who dreams of success. After, we are a person that makes success happen.

Today, I will be committed to my outcome.

“I believe life is constantly testing us for our level of commitment, and life's greatest rewards are reserved for those who demonstrate a never-ending commitment to act until they achieve. This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret.” -Anthony Robbins

There is a saying in the Alcoholics Anonomous program, “Don’t quit 5 minutes before the miracle happens.” The world is filled with people that almost succeeded. If we listen and take notes from those that created great things we find something interesting. We find that they didn’t see their success just before they fell into it. They were blindly doing what they needed to be doing. It is almost like success comes as if falling backwards blindfolded. With that in mind, how dangerous could it be at any time to be inches away from success?

When we are committed to an outcome, it takes blind belief that it will happen. The world will appear to deny in one hand while sneaking up from behind with the other. Only commitment to the outcome will keep us on the road to success. Walking toward our goal and never stopping is the only sure fire way to insure we reach our destination. The journey, once we truly own it, is the single tool needed to carve our future.

Today, I will continue on my path.
